Ionas Turkow was a Jewish actor. In the Ghetto, he directed the Performance Commission of the Self-Help Committee. The Oneg Shabbat ordered a report on the theatre in the Ghetto from him, which has been kept in the archives under the title of "Warsaw is Having Fun." During the mass deportations, he took refuge along with his wife--the singer Diana Blumenfeld--in the Többens-Schultz workshop. After succeeding in getting over to the » Aryan sector », they were the only Ghetto actors to survive. After the War, he moved to the West, and made his Alya in 1966. He died in 1988, leaving an important testimonial written in Yiddish and entitled "Azoy iz es geven"(That's how it was).
